…Homefolk Housing UK CIC is our new contender against the housing, wellbeing & climate crisis. A volunteer-run social enterprise, the community interest company (CIC) combines activist passion with professional scope. For 2 years, medical students, community housing activists, human rights lawyers & radical architects have all engaged in cross-disciplinary work. This translates to 30 student specialists at 4 universities - from Glasgow to Queen Mary - collaborating with varied housing professionals to devise the ‘homefolk model’

The ‘homefolk housing model’ is for community-owned tinyhome villages that should address multiple crises with an intersectional solution. The model:

• aims to increase diversity and density of housing provision in existing city spaces by utilising marginal paved commons - not currently seen as usable for housing.
• effectively bypasses the cost limitations of existing commercially available land for housing. 
• combines off-site construction & uniquely affordable commons sites to create a rapidly scalable model. 
• could provide tens of thousands of genuinely affordable new community-owned homes in cities. 

The next step for homefolk involves a publicity, raising our follower count, engaging the public & raising awareness of our work. We believe this will help us with local councils and funding decision makers. We will continue to pursue grant funding and crowdfunding for our core operations and anticipated expenses as a social enterprise as we work towards the pilot.
