where & when & how

where

the video above, circa jan 2024 provides a summary of a vision for our pilot in stepney green, tower hamlets - we feel this site well illustrates our vision, but is an illustrative example

our search is ongoing for the perfect site for our pilot community, currently focusing in on newham, hackney, islington, waltham forest, tower hamlets and beyond

the east end of london is the ideal area for our first homefolk community. as a centuries old hub for new arrivals to the capital, likewise we see how homefolk can bring our new skills and facets to london

nowhere else in the capital has felt gentrification quite like the east end, with community pushed out in place of profit and soulless corporate 'development'. what better place to showcase a big idea in housing and prove the benefits of our model for respectfully densifying the urban environment

we aim to show if we can do it here, we can do it anywhere... it might be a long way off, but if you are interested in living in a homefolk  tinyhome village we'd recommend you click on below to our 'live here' interest page

when

things kicked off properly when we got our CIC registered in 2023...

currently our -->timeline<-- is adjusted so that construction will begin at our tinyhome builders site approximately ten-twelve months before we begin to piece everything together on our final site

in the meanwhile we are working on the supporting legal model, documents and architectural components necessary to make our housing project a success - this will likely take us to well beyond the end of 2024/5 before we're ready to present our pilot 'product' for residents

finally, we complete a dazzlingly quick two month in-situ set up of our village from zero to 8 ready to live in homes

when it comes to where we're at now and our future milestones we need to hit to make that happen, use the button below to explore our project timeline from concept to social enterprise housing provider

how

how

how does homefolk work? how will we get from today to the pilot? watch the short video above, or read below for a summary:

with a team of 20-30 dedicated volunteers, homefolk operates through different working groups: for example, architecture & design, and legal strands. this video delves into the unique role each group plays within the organisation, emphasising the collaborative efforts that drive homefolk's initiatives. the video sheds light on how the homefolk can engage with local residents and councils, the architecture & design team shapes the innovative housing model, and the legal group navigates the intricate legal aspects of the project
